想握你的手 - 迷路兵

想握你的手 translates into "I wanna hold your hand". I guess I shan't elaborate here ...

Church and Fahrenheit 451 (and more ...)

I don't think that I'd gotten over exam mode completely. Yesterday was my first time to a church, so it was an eye-opener for me. And it was interesting too. For me, it felt as though the service was a cross between a rock concert (Really! There was even a live band!) and a preaching session (This feels like a inspirational session if the references to the Bible were stripped out!). Just something from the preaching which I felt was useful:

The 10,000 hour rule
Apparently, researchers have discovered that to really be a genius at something, you have to have put in 10,000 hours of hard work into it. There were living proof like Bill Gates, and Mozart and the Beatles are also some of the others who had put in the (more than) 10,000 hours to be really successful.

So that means I have to study 8 hours for 365 days a year for 3.5 years (!!!) to really be a genius. Hmm ...

Anyway, I was thinking about F451 that night too. During the service technology seemed to be in full force. Huge (LED) screens, TV cameras, those reminded me of the times of the recording of NSC '08. The live band provided the melody for the Christians (that would be about 99.5% of everyone there) to sing along, and I was amazed!

There was a strange parallel between yesterday and Prom night , though I would not elaborate here. If anything refer to my post on Prom night here.

Blog overhaul

This blog had needed a new and fresh image. Now that I have the time to engage in non-academic activities, today, I have started my blog overhaul. Giving a different and fresh look for my blog has been one of my must-dos after the O levels, and today, 28 November is the best time to start it.

So in one month's time (28 December), prepare to see a all-new look on this blog!

PS: Can you guess what the new theme will be? (Clue: It has to do with one particular number ...)

Prom night

So yesterday night was Prom night. And since I had no idea how the night would go, I went there with the only hope that I don't screw things up. But problems came up anyway. Firstly, thanks to my trousers, I was delayed at home by one good hour. Then when I got to a meeting point where I could hitch a ride to Raffles Town Club (RTC) I was informed that that would be delayed too. So in the end, I endured a ride on 960 to RTC instead. And if that weren't bad enough, I had problems tying my tie. So the first thing after I reached RTC was to ask for directions to the toilet.

And only when I entered the toilet did I finally saw someone I knew. And I got help for my tie as well. And the positive feelings slowly rose through the evening ...

Things brightened up (literally) when the ballroom was opened. And then came some pointless games and then the food. Somehow I managed to go for 4 rounds of food before time ran out. Then came more games: Don't forget the lyrics! and Music TV. My intuition was right when I predicted Mr Osgodby to go up and sing (offhand I don't remember the song title, though it's a really old song). As for Music TV, it is really just Love TV in disguise. getting the "couples" (maybe the quotation marks aren't needed) to act out scenes that prompted "oohs" and plenty of laughter (thrusting the groin forward, anyone?).

When the lights were dimmed later on, the amount of positive feelings in me started to decrease. I was rather disappointed with the results and when (most of) the lights in the ballroom were switched off for people to start dancing, I stayed around for awhile before leaving RTC in a gloomly mood that was not unlike the dark skies.

Watching the bus speed along the expressway did help to lift my spirits for a while (I was standing in front of the bus, so that was fun) .

That's a lot of text above right? Unfortunately I took barely any photos at all :(

Money buys stuff, but not love and happiness.
And the reason why I put in the quote above had to do with the fact that I felt better during Graduation Day than during Prom Night. I paid nothing for the former, yet I was in better spirits during the former than the latter. (I took and posed for more photos in the former too. Yesterday I took like what, 3 photos only???) Yesterday night I was practically begging for a bus, any bus, to bring me out of RTC ...

Oh well, today is a new day and I guess I should hit the "Refresh" button in my mind ...

I Don't Feel Like Dancin' - Scissor Sisters

Lyrics to I Don't Feel Like Dancin' [Scissor Sisters] in video below:

Tomorrow's Prom night! I do hope that tomorrow night, I don't have the "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" mindset, that is:
(1) Lean against some wall and (2) simply look (or stare) at the dancing going on in front of me ...

BP = Budget Prom?

Prom night is coming up in like, 2 days time? So over the past week I have pestered my parents for my clothes for Prom night. Back then I have already given some concessions just so I can attend this Prom like:

  1. I'm paying the $50 entrance fee
  2. No tuxedos/jackets even
Therefore I am rather short of cash (taking a bus down to RTC???) and I don't certainly think I can win some award for being the "Best-dressed" guy. And the buying of clothes is some headache too. What long trousers?/Does this tie go with my shirt? and the like.

So I am going down with the following:
  • One simple long-sleeved shirt w/ tie
  • Black business trousers
  • Black shoes and socks (you can guess the cost of these)
Now I sure hope that I don't fumble/cock up/need to call Earth to swallow me whole instantaneously for Prom night. Apart for that I hope Prom night does not simply become an ultra-expensive (and worse, boring) dinner too.

Oh yes, why does it seem that smart people tend to avoid such events? 'Cause I don't think I will be able to strike up a conversation (of a decent length) with those who ARE going ... and I hope I don't have to resort to my handphone for an outlet to release boredom ...

Some recent movies

I was just wondering what movies to watch ('cause I'm bored and I don't want to spend all day in front of the computer) . Then I saw this trailer from A Christmas Carol:

Then I heard something familiar. Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future? Cue for the next trailer from Ghosts of Girlfriends Past:

Anyway I'm not too interested in that Christmas movie. I still prefer my Polar Express ;)

Now for the next trailer from 2012:

End of the world? So not true, and no thanks too.

Going on to Fantastic Mr. Fox (Doesn't the name sound so nice?):

I think I might choose to watch this one (My favourite among the three). Then again I might wait for better movies to appear ...

You're Beautiful - James Blunt

Today marks the return of Music Monday. Here's one song I've been meaning to post for quite a while already.

That's You're Beautiful by James Blunt. Lyrics are in the video below and with that, enjoy!

The O Levels

I said I will be back on the 13 of November, and here I am. So consider this post as a post-mortem on my performance for the O levels, held over the last 3 weeks.

By subject, here we go:
1127: English
The first time that I actually tried narrative! I hope (that with the help of recently acquired model essays and 5-years worth of Trilingual Digest) it will turn out fine. The situational was kind of unexpected, and hopefully that will do fine as well. Same goes for Paper 2, but I'm worried about the unpredictability and I fear the worst ...

1111: Higher Chinese (高级华文)
应用文 should be fine, but I'm very worried for the 报章报道 and I am worried about it. Paper 2 was OK but I still fear that I get a C grade here. B for 快捷华文, will it be a C for 高级华文?

2192: Combined Humanities (SS + Lit)
If my SBQ doesn't crash like that during the Prelims, SS should be fine. But there's Lit too, and I think I might say bye bye to an A1 here, even a A.

2235: Geography
This should be fine unless something really bad happens ... But an A2 should be within reach ...

4016: (E) Maths
This should be an A1 unless something REALLY bad happens, but the A1 I cannot guarantee ...

4038: A Maths
Another A1 unless something AWFULLY bad happens because this was rather smooth ...

5058: Physics
A bit of hiccups in Paper 2, but Paper 1 is fine ...

5072: Chemistry
Both papers I had plenty of time to check, though I could have really studied based on the syllabus guide and studied the fuel cell in more detail ...

5094: Biology
Paper 2 was smooth-sailing, but the same cannot be said for Paper 1. Where I didn't study the syllabus guide for Chemistry, I did for Biology, so I could spot several topics. Examples: (1) Treatment of sewage (2) Production of insulin from GM bacteria.

An estimate of my results that I will receive next year:

A1s: 5
A2s: 1
B3s: 3

L1R5: 9
In this sense I'll be happy if my gross L1R5 is just one digit. But what will make me more happy is if the predicted B3's don't materialize.

But I guess for now I shall take a real break from school and engage in Facebook. This blog will receive a facelift too!

Oh yes, anybody knows the date that we will have to return school to collect our O level results? I hope I don't miss that date!
