"Devoted" and "Committed"

I was reminded about the EOY08 English paper 2. Remember there was a question asking for the synonym for "devotedness"?

Just a random thought:
"Devoted" and "committed" are synonyms, but
"devotee"is not a synonym for "committee" .

Seems weird?

Disturbingly profound or profoundly disturbing?

Take a guess, dear blog readers, am I disturbingly profound or profoundly disturbing?

You Are Disturbingly Profound

You're contemplative, thoughtful, and very intense.
Taking time to figure out the meaning of life is a priority for you.
Because you're so introspective, you often react in ways that surprise people.
No one can really understand how you are on the inside... and that disturbs them.

A*STAR Science Award (Upper Secondary) (Continued)

My last post on this topic was all about the $XXXX.00 cheque. It is definitely not an useful source for more info on the A*STAR Science Award (Upper Secondary) . Hence, I shall probably rant (or elaborate) about the benefits of this award, aside from the monetary aspects of this award.

In no particular order, here are some benefits of the award:
1. Make new friends
It was compulsory for the award recipients to attend a two day Research Exposure Programme. In those two days, I made a couple of friends, mostly those that had taken part in the National Science Challenge 2008. Heck, it was interesting to get some of their viewpoints about the show.

2. Gain lab experience
What more can be said about this? It is interesting to look at the machines that the researchers use, for they are not readily accessible elsewhere. Also, we got to listen to the researchers explain about their research topic, knowledge that isn't taught in school. Things like cross-flow filtration, etc. ...

3. Free food
Ok, so the A*STAR folks would cater to your lunches. That means you do not have to bring anything but yourself and an Ez-link card (for transport) (and probably some writing materials) .

4. No bonds
This only means flexibility in choosing what jobs I can take in the future. If there is a bond to this award, even if the award is for a million dollars, I might choose not to take it, especially if I am going to be attached to some institute in Biopolis. But as for other institutes in Fusionopolis, I'll have to see about that ...

Above are just some benefits of the award that I can think offhand. Even with some of bad points (which I'm too lazy to elaborate) , the cheque can keep me (and other award recepients) going through. So there, the cheque is a good carrot (think carrots and sticks) .

What kind of sundae am I?

Just what kind of sundae am I?

I am a Banana Split

Fruity, flavourful, and diverse.

A*STAR Science Award (Upper Secondary)

I've collected the cheque for {an ain't gonna be disclosed sum of money} , and I still haven't blogged about it yet. I suppose I've been thinking about how I should spend this decent sum of money.

Or should I save it? The interest rates aren't high anyway, so maybe I should just spend it. But on what?

(I suppose this thinking could take some time ...)

What some fireworks say about me

What do some fireworks say about me?

You are chaotic, inspired, and very creative.
You're so creative, people don't really recognize your creativity.
What's expressive for you sometimes looks like a mess.
But you don't really care... you enjoy making your messes!

So, why don't you try The Fireworks Test?

National StrITwise Challenge 2008

The competition mentioned above reaped our team some decent results, I would say. Some thumbdrives to spread the fun around, a router for LAN gaming and some software that professionals use to draw (that might be a waste) and animate (for the Internet -- though we saw a professional from Japan using it to draw manga characters).

And an analogue watch too. It's orange in colour (my favourite colour) , but it does not look durable so I'm only going to wear it on special occasions (or when my going-to-fail-anytime watch fails on me).

Seriously speaking, if you want to buy a router that has 4 Ethernet ports, leave a comment. I will be more than pleased to make the transaction with an acceptable offer.

What's my expression number?

Starting today, for the following Wednesdays in the December holidays, I will be putting up some of the results of the blog quizzes that I have done recently. Here's the first one to start the ball rolling: (The question is in the title of this post)

Well, my expression number is 5:

A total multi-tasker, you have a wide variety of talents.
You're very versatile and able to change at a drop of a hat.
A free spirit, you crave change and adventure.

Clever and quick witted, you can convince anyone of anything.
You can do anything you desire... though this sometimes gets you in trouble!
Very popular, you're always thinking up new ways to entertain and amuse your friends.

Your restless and impatient attitude means you don't stay with projects for long.
You tend to be erratic and scattered - it's hard for you to focus.
You often find yourself in a state of flux with constantly changing interests.

Yawn ...

Probably right after I am finished with the typing of this post, I would be falling asleep. Many things have caused my sleep debt to accumulate like the national debt of the United States of America. Some of them are as follows:

1. The 100 条俗语
2. Robocoding/Robodesign
3. Related to the forensics course I've attended recently

I'm so tired, I ain't bothering to elaborate on them. Anyway, to my staunchest supporters of this blog,

Happy Holidays!

PS: Spend them holidays wisely (or try to do so, at least :) ). It ain't a nanosecond before the next extended holiday break!

Super primes

Just came across a interesting article on Wikipedia on super primes.

Wait a minute, you mean besides primes we also have super primes, like besides Superman, we have super-Superman, I can pick up voices like this. Well, super primes are primes that occupy prime-numbered positions in the list of primes. Get it? If you don't, don't fret. Here is a table to show you what I mean:

List of prime numbersPosition in list of primes
21
32
53
74
115
136
177
198
......
(Highlighted in violet are the primes that correspond to the numbers highlighted in the right column)(Highlighted in blue are the prime numbers)

From the table, we can see that the prime 3 is the 2nd prime number, the prime 5 is the 3rd prime number, the prime 11 is the 5th prime number and the prime 17 is the 7th prime number. Hence, the super primes are the primes 3, 5, 11 and 17.

What do you think about Superman, er, I mean, super primes?
