The power of synergy

The power of synergy, that something extra you get when you put two or more things/people together. To illustrate it, watch these two videos together. I don't know what to say if you can't get a laugh out of these videos:

Enjoyed it?

We Are The World - Various Artists

For today's Music Monday, I thought I might put up some stuff that's useful for GP. How so? This song is a good example of how celebrities use mass media (like songs) to help raise funds for the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. Here are the lyrics to the modified version of We Are The World, originally sang by Michael Jackson!

Lyrics to We Are The World (25 For Haiti) [Various Artists]

[Justin Beiber]
There comes a time
When we head a certain call
[Nicole Scherzinger & Jennifer Hudson]
When the world must come together as one
[Jennifer Hudson]
There are people dying
[Jennifer Nettles]
And it’s time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all
[Josh Groban]
We can’t go on
Pretending day by day
[Tony Bennet]
that someone, somehow will soon make a change
[Mary J Blige]
We are all a part of
God’s great big family
And the truth, you know love is all we need

[Chorus]
[Michael Jackson]
We are the world
We are the children
[Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson]
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
[Barbra Streisand]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Miley Cyrus]
Send them your heart
So they’ll know that someone cares
[Enrique Iglesias]
so there cries for help
will not be in vein
We can’t let them suffer
no we cannot turn away
[Jamie Foxx]
Right now they need a helping hand
[Wyclef Jean]
(?)
We are the Children
[Adam Levine]
We are the ones who make a brighter day
so lets start giving
[Pink]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
[BeBe Winans]
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Michael Jackson]
When you’re down and out
There seems no hope at all
[Usher]
But if you just believe
There’s no way we can fall
[Celine Dion]
Well, well, well, well, let us realize
That a change can only come
[Fergie]
When we stand together as one
[Nick Jonas]

[Chorus - All]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
[Nick Jonas]
Got to start giving
[All]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
[Toni Braxton]
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me
[Mary Mary]
We are the world
We are the children
[Tony Bennet]
Its for the children
[Isaac Slade]
We are the ones who make a brighter day
[Toni Braxton]
So lets start giving

[Lil Wayne]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Chorus - All]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
[Akon]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we make a better day
Just you and me

[T-Pain]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
[Jamie Foxx]
Choice were making
saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Rapping - LL Cool J, Will-I-Am, Soop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Swizz Beatz]
We all need somebody that we can lean on
when you wake up look around and see that your dreams gone
when the earth quakes we’ll help you make it through the storm
when the floor breaks a magic carpet to stand on
we are the World united by love so strong
when the radio isn’t on you can hear the songs
a guided light on the dark road your walking on
a sign post to find the dreams you thought was gone
someone to help you move the obstacles you stumbled on
someone to help you rebuild after the rubble’s gone
we are the World connected by a common bond
Love the whole planet sing it along

[Chorus - All]

[Kanye West]
Everyday citizens
everybody pitching in

[Singing - Children & Wyclef Jean]

[Will-I-Am]
You and I
You and I
[Kanye West]
Uh, 12 days no water
wishing will to live
[Will-I-Am]
we amplified the love we watching multiple
[Kanye West]
Feeling like the Worlds end
we can make the World win
[Will-I-Am]
Like Katrina, Africa, Indonesia
and now Haiti needs us, the need us, they need us

[Chorus - All]
[Wyclef Jean]
Haiti, Haiti, Ha, Ha, ha, ha, ha
Haiti, Haiti, Ha, Ha, ha, ha, ha
Haiti, Haiti, Ha, Ha, ha, ha, ha
[End]

Why I didn't go NJC

From Eunice's blog (or otherwise from someone in NJ):

tired...physically mentally emotionally..of the stairs in nj, the...everything
UPDATE on 19 Feb 2010:
From SS, we know that one source alone is not reliable. So here's another source to support the above, and it's from a status update on Facebook:
NJ HAS STAIRCASES EVERYWHERE!!!!! -.- BETTER GIVE ME STRONG LEG MUSCLES BY END OF J2!!!! -.- Oh, and there's the overhead bridge that I've to climb everyday-.-
That's partly why I didn't go NJC. Glad I avoided a bad choice :D (Did anyone listen to me about the stairs in NJ?)

River Hong Bao 2010

OT (Off-topic) : Today I transferred 88 photos! 这是个好兆头啊!

Last Sunday (初一) my family went down to the River Hong Bao 2010.

It's at the floating platform at Marina Bay, so we can get to be on the floating platform :D and as well as to walk on F1 race track :D X3! Here's various perspectives of Marina Bay from the floating platform:
The Mandarin Oriental hotel and the Pan Pacific hotel at the background
The old Supreme Court
The Esplanade
The famous "Singapore Skyline" :D
The upcoming Marina Bay Sands IR!
Oh yah and I have to add on that it's a FABULOUS idea to hold the River Hong Bao there; at least there's plenty of space to walk about ;)

Before I go on, I have to mention the funfair (carnival rides) next to the floating platform. There are quite a few rides there, and some of those are very very scary! Here's some of them:
In this ride "Sky Rider", can you see that the people are being swung very close to the tree branches on the right? Also, I was telling my brother how dangerous this ride was: if somehow the cable between the ride and the seat broke loose, the person on the seat may fly towards (and hit) the seating gallery? Like that the poor fella will "good game" liao! (Touch wood! Touch wood!)

In this ride "Vortex" people are swung around in circles (going from up to down and back up again) . There are two places where people brave enough to try the ride can sit. While the people at the bottom get off/on the ride, the people at the top will be left "hanging around" mid air! Imagine being high up in the night, with cool wind blowing pass you! Once I saw that no one wanted to ride the ride, so the ride was stationary, while there were people at the top! They stayed there for 10+ minutes until a few brave souls stepped forward to try the ride ...

Going on, here are some more pictures:

There are more photos that I want to put up but my internet connection is pretty slow, so that's it for now. Here are some "take-home messages" :D

Mambo No. 5 - Lou Bega

Here's today's song. Thought I'd better put this up before I forget to do so; this song brings good memories :D Meanwhile, happy Chinese New Year! ;)

BTW here are the lyrics: (just in case someone wants it!)
Lyrics to Mambo No. 5 [Lou Bega]
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Mambo No 5

One, two , three four, five
Everybody in the car so come on let's ride
To the liqueur-store around the corner,
The boys say they want some gin and juice
But I really don't wanna
Beerbust like I had last week
I must stay deep 'cause talk is a cheap
I like Angela, Pamela, Sandra and Rita
And as I continue you know they're gettin' sweeter
So what can I do I really beg you my Lord
To me flirtin' it's just like a sport
Anything fly it's all good let me dump it
Please set in the trumpet

A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita is all I need
A little bit of Tina is what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man

Jump up and down and move it all around
Shake your head to the sound put your hands an the ground
Take one step left and one step right
One to the front and one to the side
Clap your hands once and clap your hands twice
And if it looks like this then you doin' it right

A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita is all I need
A little bit of Tina is what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man

Trumpet, the Trumpet!
Mambo No 5

A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita is all I need
A little bit of Tina is what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man

I do all to fall in love with a girl like you
You can't run and you can't hide you and me gonna touch the sky

Body Cells and Transformations

Something short and sweet for today:

On my ride home, I just recalled that someone said that "our body cells have an average lifespan of about 7 years, which means that who you are now is totally different from who you were 7 years ago". (Was it the principal who said that?)

Then I reflected on myself now, and myself 6 years ago (in Primary School, for simpler reference) . Take a analogy from computers: Not only has the hardware changed (totally) the software (i.e. operating system) has also been transformed. Likewise I have changed physically as well as mentally (how my system of thinking runs inside). Old ways of thinking have been replaced by new methods ...

And the list goes on but I need to sleep so good night! :D I'll continue this tomorrow if possible ... But does anyone read this blog??? Please tag if you come by here! Thanks!

Sorry Sorry - Super Junior

Here is today's song. (I was inspired to put up today's song because I heard this song quite a good number of times during orientation!) The first video is the dance MV (taken in just one shot!) while the other is an Indian version of Sorry Sorry. Hope you enjoy the two videos!

College CIP Day

Thursday was AJC's College CIP Day (for only the second year in a row). As part of the CIP, we had to clean up East Coast Park. Where our OG cleaned up the beach, we didn't find much litter. The majority of litter we found were cigarette butts. Though we found a frog as well! The whole OG stopped work to look at the frog o.O Here's the frog:

Then we headed back to house HQ to learn some "green" cheers, before going on to the main HQ for the finale, which consisted of a mascot designing competition and cheering competition. Our house/alliance practically cheered after every sentence said by our spokesperson (for the mascot)! And then while we forgot most of our "green" cheer, the last cheer that we used was countered by some other OGLs from another alliance. So we countered back and this repeated until the emcees tell us to stop cheering:

We: Listen to our heartbeat: Bom X15 Listen to their heartbeat: tiii (Others respond) ... ...
Others: Listen to our heartbeat: Bom X15 Listen to their heartbeat: tiii (We respond) ... ...
Repeat above until emcees tell us to stop :D :D :D
After dismissal, we took some photos before leaving for lunch (here's one) :

Then we went for OG lunch at Parkway Parade (PP). After walking around PP, we cannot seem to find anywhere which has seats to accommodate the whole OG. So we decided to go to Fish and Co. which was like practically empty. The waitress also kindly arranged the tables to fit the 24 of us (including the OGLs). Here's the 24 of us:

Ordering lunch was a nightmare (for the waitresses)! It took us like 20 minutes just to finish ordering the food, and then we waited for our food. The waitress served the middle section (where I was seated) first, and I got to see how large the serving was! My order for "the best fish and chips in town": One gigantic piece of fish fillet + Plenty of fries!

After I finished my fries, I ingested a handful more fries courtesy of those who can't finish all the fries, and I had to add more water to my "full" stomach (to aid digestion!). Then we sang a birthday song for the birthday boy (not quite his birthday, actually; it's about 5 days later!). Then the staff (waitress + cooks) sang their Fish and Co.'s version of "Happy Birthday" to him (they are like really high man!) and they gave a "present" to him: Ice-cream (Chocolate-flavoured I think) !

And one last thing for today: Splitting the bill (BTW, it's hundreds of dollars) among all 24 of us is madness! I mean, having to take into account GST, service charge, 10 % discount for buying in bulk (i.e. more than 2 ppl), splitting the bill is a headache and a half!

AJC Orientation 2010 - Avventura!

Right now, I have been through:

  • 3 days of adventure
  • 5 days of orientation
  • 7 days in AJC
So it's time for this post on AJC's orientation: Avventura! All right, this post will be split into 3 main sections:

#1. Games
Friday's game is rather boring so I'll skip it. During Monday, our OG played quite a few different games (same for Tuesday/Wednesday!) , some of which are "Strange hieroglyphics" - passing a certain phrase down the OG through drawings. Whoa the process is hard to describe, but my partner and I (the second-last pair) morphed a barely comprehensible rock-climbing wall to a (broken!) rope! Seriously I wonder how the last pair figured out that the answer is the rock-climbing wall in AJC ...

On Tuesday our OG played a game called S.O.S. with ~5 other OGs. At one part of the game (same sex) couples had to (1) face away from each other (2) sandwich a [basketball (then) rugby ball (then) balloon] between their backs (3) transport the ball to the other side of the hall. And my pair was like the only pair to accidentally pop the balloon! Oops :D

Today (i.e. Wednesday) our OG played a game that has got to do with fashioning a structure out of newspapers, straws and ice-cream sticks (and how can I forget the masking tape? :D) Our idea was to build boxes and stack them up just like HDB flats :D but it failed terribly. My genius (or at least workable) idea came too late :(

#2. Dances (split into 3 sub-sections:)
#2A.Group(!) Dance - Learned on Friday [Borriquito??? I'm not so sure ...]
This dance is no problem at all, but lack of space means cannot move as much as I would like to :( like when we are supposed to run we can barely walk :(

#2B.Solo(!!) Dance - Learned on Monday [That Girl (Will Never Be Mine)]
First time seeing the dance, though that it was incredibly difficult. But slowly, after we learned the dance, it's not that difficult at all. Wait till you come across to the one below ...

#2C.Couple(!!!) Dance - Learned on Tuesday [Mambo No. 5]
Ok, this is my (and probably >75% of JC1s') first time dancing with a partner. And even though it's very much harder & there's a lot more coordination involved, I have to admit this: I like this! One more thing: Can I do it again?

#3. Cheers
The first two days, there really weren't much cheers. BUT, this week, after we learned our alliance's (METALLO) cheers, the cheers just "keeps getting better" and louder! Also, our alliance also "hijacked" (or countered) other alliances' cheers. Eg. Tritone: 吸够了吗?Metallo: 不够! :D:D:D Yesterday I shouted until I got a mild sore throat, though today it's less serious (maybe 'cos we counter less often! <-- Instruction from OGLs) . But still it's lots of fun - reminds me of cheering like mad in BP :) wait: when I cheer in BP I don't get as "high" as when I cheer here in AJ ...

#4. Misc.
The AJ rap was great (though the female rap IC always 跑拍子) ! During the orientation song (BTW it's We'll Get There) everyone placed their arms around their neighbours like we are going to graduate liao even though we had not finished orientation haha ;)

Once I get hold of our OG's photos I'll post it up on this blog. So stay tuned!

Meanwhile, here's my favourite cheer:
Metal A-Power Power Metal A-Power Power Metal A-Power Power OH MY GOD!!! Yeah!
